Acupuncture Needles in Skin

Acupuncture: Understanding the Benefits

Acupuncture is treatment modality that we have used at Arkansas Physical Health & Rehab for many years. It gets excellent results with pain problems as well as internal organ issues.

There are many theories as to why acupuncture works. The modern medical theory is that needles placed in the body will release different endorphins and therefore decrease pain. This does not take into account how acupuncture helps internal organ problems.

The theory that I believe makes the most sense is that acupuncture allows Chi energy to flow through the body and therefore restore normal function to the body. Chi energy is a concept that was developed or originated in China many thousands of years ago, as a matter of fact, some researchers believe that acupuncture is over 5000 years old. Chi energy and the acupuncture system is an entire system of control over the body’s function that is outside the normal nervous system function. When Chi energy is blocked, it can cause pain or dysfunction along the path of the meridian that is being blocked. Meridians are channels in which this energy flows over the body.

In our office, we work primarily to help your acupuncture system function better by using a five elements theory. The five elements are earth, fire, metal, water, and wood and this theory has been around for many thousands of years. This theory explains how acupuncture works and how energy moves throughout the body. When your energy is balanced and flowing properly, then you will have good health. The five elements theory strives to improve energy flow and balance by stimulating certain points on the body. There are number of ways that you can stimulate acupuncture points on the body.

The primary way we use within the office is with needle stimulation, however you can do it with physical stimulation by tapping the point or by light stimulation, which involves using a laser light. Another method is also electrical stimulation. All of these methods have been shown to be effective to varying degrees, however primarily, we use the traditional method of needle stimulation at our office.

Acupuncture is also very useful for internal organ malfunctions. The two that I have gotten the best results with in the office are gallbladder problems and female issues, however, we have also gotten very good results with heart problems, asthmas, lung issues, small and large intestinal issues, and live problems. Acupuncture has been very helpful in dealing with many of these areas that frustrate the modern medical theory of how acupuncture works. For the most part, medical providers believe acupuncture works through endorphin release when different points are stimulated on the body. However, this cannot explain how acupuncture helps internal organ problems such as those listed above. It is because of this, that we use the theory that is more traditional in explaining how acupuncture works and that of energy flow through the body. If you can balance energy flow and ensure that it is flowing properly at the proper time of day, you can get excellent results with many different internal organ problems.

Rebalancing your acupuncture energy by using a number of different points has been shown to help different internal organ problems, as well as general health promotion. These points have been known to acupuncturists for thousands of years and have been said to have helped more people than all other types of health care combined. This is because it has been around longer than any other type of healthcare, but such a long-standing history, you can imagine that it has been developed into a real science by those who practice it.
