Can I Prevent the Flu and the Cold?

There are many things that can be done to help you avoid colds and flus during this season of the year.

One of the easiest things are taking Vitamin D on a regular basis. Many of the pills that are available at health food stores or even Walmart, have a dose that is quite low. The Mayo Clinic recommends that you take 5000 international units every day to help avoid the flu. As a matter of fact, they did a study that showed if you take that dosage every day, you are more likely to avoid the flu than if you were to get the flu shot.

The second thing you can do is to work on your adrenal glands. Your adrenal glands are excellent for helping your immune system become stronger and more able to fight off colds and flus. A couple of things that are great to help your adrenal glands are DSF. This is a supplement that is our best seller in the office and is for those who are working to improve overall body health, as well as your adrenal glands. Repairing your adrenal glands can take significant amount of time, so this not a short-term strategy, however I do recommend people take DSF right off the bat if they get sick.

A third thing that can be done for your immune system and probably the most potent and important thing is getting your gut bacteria to be healthy and strong. Now this entails a number of steps. Step one is to consider that most likely you do not have any kind of healthy gut bacteria growing at this stage if you have a diet that consists of eating a normal amount of carbohydrates. Most likely you have an overgrowth of candida. This is a decreased amount of the healthy bacteria in your gut and can cause a lot of problems with your immune system. The second step is to take probiotics. This is very important as these probiotics help to increase the amount of the healthy bacteria in your intestinal tract. In our office, we recommend a product called Total Probiotics. It has seven different strains of bacterial probiotics that help intestines be healthy. By improving your gut health, you will not only be heling to improve your immune system, but will also help make you healthier in general.
