Why Take Vitamin D?
Why Take Vitamin D?
Vitamin D is one of the most important vitamins you should take because it helps your body in so many ways! Studies continue to find more uses for Vitamin D, but the most prominent benefits include:
- Boosting your Immune System
- Brain Health
- Stronger Bones
- Better Skin
We believe at Arkansas Physical Health & Rehab that everyone should be taking a regular dose of Vitamin D. We recommend a dose of 1000 IU (International Units) as a healthy dose for an adult. If you are battling an infection or virus we suggest bumping your dosage up to 20,000 IU's with your doctor's approval.
One of the great things about Vitamin D is that you can buy it practically anywhere and it is very inexpensive. Because of this, you can almost say you can't afford NOT to take it.
In the past, a common belief was that VItamin D was only good for your bones, but now we can see there are so many more benefits. A recent study showed if you took the 1000 IU for a year, you were less likely to get the flu, than if you had received the flu shot. Therefore, making the flu shot less effective than Vitamin D.
Vitamin D has also been shown to be extremely helpful for your brain function. I am going to quote from Dr. Robert Przybelski. He is a research scientist at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He states, “We also know Vitamin D activates and deactivates enzymes in the brain and their cerebrospinal fluid that are involved in neurotransmitter synthesis and nerve growth”. In addition, animal and laboratory studies suggest vitamin D protects nerves and reduces inflammation. This is on top of all the other amazing things that vitamin D does for your body, including improving your immune system and decreasing your chances of getting cancer.
What supplements should I be taking? We recommend the following four serve as your foundation:
- Vitamin D
- Adrenal Support
- Omega 3 Fatty Acids
If you are taking those four things, you are going to head off what kills 90% of Americans!
