Excellent food sources of immune boosting nutrients include vibrant green, red and orange vegetables, delicious nuts and seeds, fresh seafood, whole eggs, and poultry.
Fresh herbs, such as basil and cilantro, vegetables, like garlic and scallions add robust flavor to recipes and also add their own infection-fighting properties.
Probiotics also help to improve the immune system by making your intestinal wall healthier. Practically everyone needs probiotics. These are the friendly bacteria that make your digestion better, help constipation and diarrhea, and also make your immune system stronger.
The reason everyone needs these good little helpful bacteria is that almost everyone eats meat of some sort. (Even if you don’t, vegetarians have their own problems.) Almost all meat that is raised in America is raised with antibiotics. This means that most of the meat that you eat has some amount of antibiotics in it. When you eat this meat the trace amounts of antibiotics kill off some of the good bacteria. And with all the meat that many of us eat, there isn’t much of the good bacteria left.
